Coeymans Volunteers on Facebook

Good afternoon,

Please take a look at the memo below from the Town of Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Officers Association regarding law enforcement training tomorrow at the Glenmont Elementary School. Thank you and have a safe day!

-If you see police vehicles at Glenmont Elementary School and at the high school on Tuesday, July 30, don’t be alarmed. The schools are being used by the New York State Police’s Special Operations Response Team (SORT) for routine training exercises.

Glenmont School will be closed to staff that day. Deliveries and visitors to Glenmont will still be able to access the main entrance, lobby and main office. At the high school on July 30, just the E wing will be off-limits during the training. The State Police will be at the schools from approximately 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Police agencies often use our school buildings during the summer to host regular safety and emergency response training for their officers. The Bethlehem Police Department will conduct a similar training at the high school in the E wing on Wednesday, August 7 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Thursday, August 8 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. -

Coeymans Fire Company #1

A near miss on the Thruway this morning for a neighbor company. Thankfully no serious injuries occurred. We've all seen many posts and commercials regarding moving over for emergency vehicles and tow trucks. For your safety, others on the road, your families and our brother and sister first responders, please move over or slow down when approaching any vehicle pulled over to the shoulder.

Enjoy your holiday weekend. Please be safe and again, please move over when approaching a vehicle or accident scene.**NEAR MISS INCIDENT** A little after 3:00 am, the Village of Ravena Fire Department was dispatched to the New York State Thruway for a tractor trailer rollover with unknown injuries. Upon arrival, a tractor trailer was found on its side that had been hauling trash. The driver of the truck was found to have minor injuries. The crew from Rescue 26-40 provided clean up of vehicle fluids as Ambulance 58-89 provided an evaluation of the patient. The driver of the truck was then transported to a local hospital for further care. On scene for the Village of Ravena Fire Department were Rescue 26-40, Car 26-01, Car 26-03, and Car 26-04. Assisting the Village of Ravena Fire Department were the Ravena Rescue Squad, Albany County EMS, New York State Police, New York State Thruway Authority while the Coeymans Police Department secured the crash gate for crews entering onto the New York State Thruway. As firefighters were clearing the scene, a van struck a New York State Police K-9 vehicle that was parked on the scene. The RFD requested EMS resources from Albany County EMS to the scene to assist. The passenger of the vehicle that struck the trooper's vehicle were uninjured. The trooper, however, suffered minor injuries. Car 26-04 began providing medical care to the trooper until Albany County EMS arrived. The troopers K-9 partner was not injured in the crash. Given its location, had the trooper's vehicle not been struck, it is very likely that the van would have struck Car 26-04 who was merely feet away, standing behind his vehicle as crews were beginning to return to service. We wish the trooper a speedy recovery and are grateful that the outcome of the this incident was not worse for ANY of the other crews on scene. This near miss again highlights the importance of paying attention when approaching an emergency scene and to move over when able. One of the most dangerous operating areas for emergency services are located on highways. This includes not just fire department operations, but EMS, law enforcement, and tow operators. We would like to thank the Ravena Rescue Squad, Coeymans Police Department, New York State Police, Albany County EMS, New York State Thruway Authority, and Roberts Towing for their assistance this morning.

Thank goodness all are okay!

Was that the A/A at around MP 130.9 north? I think the tow was still there at 0930 hrs.
